Joan Beck

A 1945 Northwestern graduate, Joan received her MSJ in 1947 at Medill.  As a columnist she was considered a trailblazer at the Chicago Tribune.   For example, she was the first woman with regular columns in the editorial and op-ed pages, the first woman in charge of a daily section and the first woman to serve on the paper’s editorial board.  She and her family donated her papers to the NU Archives.
